The story behind the pack.
Meet the Team Behind Legs Financial — Greensboro, NC
Every guide has an origin. Ours starts on a dark trail, a mountain, and the moment we realized that families navigating complex financial terrain don’t need more products. They need someone to carry the heavy pack.
McAfee Knob, 4 a.m.
Before there was a firm, there was a hike. A group of us set out in the pitch black to reach the summit of McAfee Knob in time for sunrise. It wasn’t a casual morning walk. It was steep, dark, and quiet—the kind of trail that makes you focus on the next step instead of the view still miles ahead.
When we reached the summit of McAfee Knob, the group gave me a trail name: Legs. I had led them up, kept them on track, and gotten everyone to the top on strong legs. They didn’t know yet that back in high school I had been voted “Best Legs” as a senior superlative. When they found out, the name was sealed. It wasn’t just a coincidence—it was confirmation.
“We carry the heavy pack so you can enjoy the view.”
That’s what Legs Financial is built on. Not managing portfolios from a distance. Not selling products. Actually hiking alongside families through the complex terrain of wealth and life—and handling the heavy execution so they can focus on the view at the top.

Mike Davis
Founder & Lead Guide
Mike took a different path—and every stop along the way shaped how Legs Financial works today.
He started as a high school physics teacher, where he learned to take genuinely complex ideas and make them clear and actionable for people who had never encountered them before. That skill never left. Years at Vanguard grounded his investment philosophy in evidence, low cost, and long-term discipline. Working with advisors across a multi-state territory at LPL gave him a front-row view of the wide range of practices and offerings in the industry—what worked, what didn’t, and what was missing. Time at a tech startup sharpened his eye for the tools that actually help clients. And a stint at a trust company gave him firsthand experience in trust administration—the kind of operational depth that most advisors simply don’t have. See how we apply it for families with Special Needs Trusts →
The pattern across all of it: every role added a layer. And when it came time to build his own firm, he couldn’t reconcile the standard model. Charging someone twice as much simply because their portfolio had grown—even when the work hadn’t changed—felt fundamentally misaligned. So he changed the model. Legs Financial operates on a transparent flat fee, quoted upfront based on the complexity of your situation, not the size of your portfolio. What is flat-fee planning? →
Mike earned his ChSNC® (Chartered Special Needs Consultant) designation specifically to offer deeper expertise and better support to families navigating Special Needs Trusts, Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) accounts, and the long-term coordination required to plan for two lifetimes. For him, it isn’t just a credential—it’s a commitment to carrying the heavy pack for families protecting a loved one’s quality of life.
Mike and his family moved to North Carolina in 2003, settling in the Lake Norman area before relocating to Greensboro in December 2021. Outside the office, he volunteers as lead for Abilities Tennis in Greensboro, serves on the board of the Guilford Regional Tennis Association (GRETA), leads new Blind and Low-Vision tennis clinics, sits on the Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities, serves as Operations Lead for the Winston-Salem Open professional tennis tournament, and offers educational seminars to organizations across the area. Director of Operations
Carly Davis
The Basecamp Commander
A great guide is only as good as their basecamp.
At Legs Financial, we operate on a deliberate Front Stage / Back Stage dynamic so nothing falls through the cracks.
Front Stage
Mike
Strategist, guide, and your primary point of contact
Back Stage
Carly
Operations engine behind every piece of The Legwork
Before building the operational engine at Legs Financial, Carly served as the Head of Client Experience at every-mother.com. As the very first employee hired, she was instrumental in the company’s rapid growth, designing the exact support systems and processes needed to deliver a flawless client experience at scale.
She holds a Master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational (IO) Psychology, a discipline she puts to use every single day. As an expert in processes and operational efficiency, Carly knows exactly how to build workflows that remove friction, anticipate needs, and eliminate the administrative stress for the families we serve.
While Mike is working with you on strategy, Carly is orchestrating the execution. When Mike and your CPA agree on a tax move, Carly drives the funding mechanics, the account transfers, the quarterly reporting, and the proactive cadence that keeps your plan moving forward between meetings.
Because of Carly, you never have to wonder: “Did that actually get done?”
How we think about this work
Three principles that shape every decision we make.
Guide First, Always
We lead with empathy, clarity, and plain English. The financial world is filled with jargon designed to intimidate. Our job is to strip that away and help families make confident decisions at life’s critical waypoints—whether they’re preparing for retirement, caring for a loved one with a disability, or weathering an unexpected crisis.
Coordination Over Products
We don’t just manage a portfolio. We act as the central hub for a family’s entire financial operation—designing the strategy, coordinating with CPAs and attorneys, and executing every detail so nothing works in isolation. The Legwork is what separates a plan from progress.
Radical Transparency
Trust requires honesty about money—including our own. We operate on a flat-fee model because we believe the advisor’s incentives should never conflict with the client’s best interests. No percentage-of-assets pricing. No hidden fees. Fees are quoted upfront based on planning complexity.
